Job description

We are looking for highly skilled and motivated Advanced Practitioners (ANPs) to join our new Women’s Health Hubs (WHH) within our female prisons. These hubs are pioneering, nurse-led/nurse-delivered services designed to deliver accessible, trauma-informed and patient-centred care, addressing a broad spectrum of women’s health needs in line with the national model. Women in prison often face complex physical and mental health challenges, including trauma, self-harm, substance misuse, chronic illness, and reproductive health issues. Marginalised groups and young adults in custody may also experience limited access to consistent sexual health education and timely healthcare support. As a Band 7 AP, you will provide clinical leadership and advanced practice to ensure these women receive the care they need and deserve.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a clinical lead within the Women’s Health Hub, supporting service development and integration
  • Undertake advanced clinical assessments and diagnostic decision-making
  • Initiate and manage treatment plans for women with complex health needs
  • Provide specialist expertise in areas such as sexual and reproductive health, menopause management, and chronic disease care
  • Deliver structured, proactive care to reduce reliance on urgent and emergency interventions
  • Support trauma-informed, holistic, and patient-centred approaches to care
  • Mentor and support colleagues, fostering a culture of professional development and high standards of care
Qualifications
  • NMC/HCPC registered nurses with relevant postgraduate qualifications in advanced practice
  • Skilled in independent clinical assessment, diagnosis, and non-medical prescribing
  • Experienced in women’s health, sexual and reproductive health, or chronic disease management
  • Committed to trauma-informed, person-centred care for vulnerable populations
  • Confident leaders able to drive innovation, integration and improvement in clinical practice
  • Adaptable, compassionate, and resilient in working within a secure environment, MSC or PGdip in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalency criteria as per national standards
  • Current registration with NMC, HPC and or other statutory body
  • Specialist Practitioner
  • Relevant Professional health degree or equivalent.
  • Evidence of recent CPD
  • Additional Leadership training
Desirable Criteria
  • Teaching qualification
  • V300 non-medical prescribing qualification
  • Cervical cytology sample taker
  • Sexual and Reproductive/contraception qualification
  • Menopause qualification
Previous Experience
  • Substantial post registration experience
  • Experience in health and justice/prison service and/or secure settings
  • Supervisory experiences
  • Proven experience of working as an independent practitioner
  • Experience of teaching and mentoring of staff across the multi-disciplinary team
  • Extensive clinical experience
  • Involvement in advanced practice development
  • Experience in trauma informed care
  • Experience in women’s health, reproductive and sexual health/menopause care, Able to demonstrate care which reflects evidence based practice.
  • To be able to take on the role of Designated Prescribing Practitioner. (if prescribing is in the scope of practice)
  • Management skills with team building abilities
  • Ability to manage complexity and develop and sustain partnership working with both individuals and across organisations
  • Ability to manage high pressured situations
  • Able to prioritise workload, achieving a balance between clinical and other aspects of role
