Job summary

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust's Leeds Children’s Hospital is seeking an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist to join the paediatric pharmacy team within the PICU/HDU. This role provides expert pharmaceutical care to critically ill children and works within a wide MDT across paediatric specialties.

You will lead clinical activities, support junior staff and contribute to developing best practices in paediatric pharmacotherapy.

Qualifications

  • GPhC registration and a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy.
  • Substantial post-registration experience as a practising clinical pharmacist.
  • Advanced clinical pharmacy knowledge applied to complex patient care.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills within MDT.
  • Paediatric/critical care experience preferred; independent prescriber ideal.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical pharmaceutical care to critically ill paediatric patients.
  • Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary rounds in PICU/HDU and related services.
  • Support, supervise and develop other members of the pharmacy team.
  • Collaborate with advanced practitioners and national experts to improve care.

Job Summary

We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Leeds Children’s Hospital paediatric pharmacy team as an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist. This role will be working within the established paediatric critical care team who are well integrated into the MDT and provide leadership to PICU, HDU, cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery. Not only will you have the opportunity to be an integral part of this multi-disciplinary team, working alongside advanced practitioners and national experts, you will get to work closely with colleagues from across a variety of clinical specialities within the Children’s hospital.

The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Leeds Children’s Hospital is one of the largest paediatric critical care units in the UK, providing care for critically ill and injured infants and children across West Yorkshire and the Humber. Annually the unit manages approximately 900 patients, offering specialised support for a wide range of patients including congenital heart disease, infections, major trauma, respiratory issues, neurological conditions, post operative care for surgeries (such as chest, abdominal, spinal or airway procedures), liver and kidney problems (including transplantation) and cancer.

What You Will Bring To The Role
  • GPhC registration and a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy, or equivalent experience or qualification.
  • Substantial post-registration experience as a practising clinical pharmacist.
  • Advanced clinical pharmacy knowledge and the ability to apply this to complex patient care.
  • Experience of managing complex clinical situations, analysing information from a range of sources and making appropriate clinical recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families and a wide range of healthcare professionals.
  • Highly developed influencing and negotiation skills and the confidence to contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to support, supervise and develop other members of the pharmacy team.
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work autonomously and adapt to changing clinical demands.
  • A collaborative, motivated and patient-centred approach, with a commitment to improving the quality and safety of medicines use.
  • Ideally, experience of paediatric and/or critical care practice, and qualification as an independent prescriber.
