Job summary

AWE in Gosport offers a Chemistry Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship (Level 3, advanced). Based within DRPS at Alverstoke, you join scientists and technicians supporting safety across UK defence programmes in a unique laboratory setting.

This 24-month programme blends practical lab work with college study, teaching sample prep, testing, result recording, and equipment care while developing professional behaviours and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above, including English Language, Mathematics and Science.
• British Nationals aged 18+ by 31 August 2027.
• Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Work safely in a laboratory and protect yourself, others and the environment
• Handle, store and dispose of laboratory materials safely
• Follow good laboratory practice and understand quality checks
• Prepare and process samples for testing
• Carry out scientific tests and interpret results
• Use, check and maintain laboratory equipment
