We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Advanced Biomedical Scientist who is professional, reliable, innovative and flexible to join our friendly, hardworking team to assist with the running of the Microbiology service at Ipswich Hospital.

Our Microbiology laboratory provides a full microbiological service for the diagnosis of infection including bacteriology, serology, parasitology, TB and molecular sections. We consist of over 50 members of staff and work closely with our other ESNEFT Microbiology laboratory situated in Colchester, performing a wide repertoire of both traditional and automated testing.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible as lead Biomedical Scientist for a specialist area
  • Manages and coordinates the day to day activities of the team
  • Leads on service improvement
  • Processes specialist investigations and is responsible for standard and quality of results
  • Provides specialist advice to clinicians as to appropriateness of tests and timescales.
  • Provides specialist service e.g. training, advanced troubleshooting, problem solving for specialist area.
  • Works flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 day per week service.
  • The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, pus, urine, faeces, and respiratory secretions.
