Job title: Dimensional Control Apprentice

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria

Salary: Starting from £14,527 - £23,493 per annum dependent on age, with annual progression through the scheme duration

What you'll be doing:
  • Working across major build evolutions providing predictive set up and advice to build teams and Engineering on critical alignment activities.
  • Using portable metrology hardware and software, gathering product data, analysing using CAD and engineering drawings to create reports advising on optimal positions.
  • The role works between Engineering and Operations, interpreting Engineering outputs, such as drawings and CAD models to enable product design intent.
  • During your 2nd and 3rd year you will rotate on various placements with Dimensional Control in each facility and complete a foundation Degree in metrology for industry, this will also include placements in Engineering and Calibration.

The Dimensional Control Team:

The role within Dimensional Control is based on core industrial engineering and metrology knowledge, working in an industry leading metrology team. Supporting all facilities and systems to produce quality reports and products.

The Submarines Team:

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state‑of‑the‑art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes. Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.
