Job description
Overview

A new opportunity has become available within the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare (HIOWHC) Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy service. We are inviting a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join our team as a Band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA), to support the management of eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties for residents in nursing and care homes, and some residents will also require support for their communication.

Responsibilities
  • Work alongside and under the guidance of registered Speech and Language Therapists (SLT) to implement screens and programmes of care for individuals with acquired eating, drinking, swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) resulting from a range of conditions including dementia, stroke, and progressive neurological difficulties. This will involve creating and developing therapy tools and resources.
  • Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of dysphagia training for Nursing and Care Home staff and carers.
  • Implement a range of work tasks and interventions for people with acquired communication difficulties, under the supervision of the registered SLT.
  • Undertake clinical administrative tasks to support the SLT nursing and care home pathway.
Qualifications
  • NVQ level 3 diploma or evidence of an equivalent qualification.
  • English and Maths O level, CSE, GCSE (A‑C) or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with adults in a health or social care setting.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to the use of a car.
