Job Title: Admissions Officer

Faculty/Directorate: Marketing & Student Recruitment

Grade: E

Location: High Wycombe

Hours: 22.2 hrs per week

Responsible to: UK Admissions Manager

Job Purpose: To deliver a first-class admissions and recruitment service for the University’s applicants, offering official and professional advice directly to applicants, whilst ensuring the quality of service is constantly improving. The role holder is a subject matter expert in the course portfolio, admissions criteria and applicant assessment for professionally accredited courses.

Responsibilities
  • Make decisions on undergraduate and postgraduate applications using agreed entry criteria.
  • Proactively engage with staff across the institution, including liaison on interview and portfolio reviews, ensuring decisions are returned within relevant timescales.
  • Continuously evaluate processes to suggest and implement service improvements.
  • Provide advice and guidance to applicants, staff and external organisations on acceptable qualifications and appropriate admissions routes for UK and international applications.
  • Advise applicants on placement options within chosen programmes.
  • Engage in early-stage student retention activities.
  • Maintain accurate recording of application information on the Admissions database.
  • Carry out fee assessments to ensure correct fee classification.
  • Liaise with partner institutions and partnership managers to apply best practice and university policy.
  • Ensure all required checks (fraudulent applications, UK/overseas qualifications, language qualifications) are completed.
  • Handle telephone enquiries, emails, written enquiries and walk‑ins from prospective applicants.
  • Represent the Admissions Team at open days, providing support and detailed information on application procedures.
  • Represent the Admissions Team at Interview Days and Applicant Visit Days, providing administrative support.
  • Liaise with other faculties, departments and external bodies (UCAS, SPA, NARIC, QAA, UKVI).
  • Manage the scheduling and delivery of interviews and selection days.
  • Prepare documents and assessments required for interviews, issue invites and offer letters.
  • Advise colleagues within academic schools, the Marketing & Student Recruitment Directorate and other university staff on admissions processes.
  • Work closely with the entire Student Recruitment & Admissions Office to provide a consistent, effective, customer‑focused service.
  • Perform any other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis as reasonably required.
  • Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (Data Protection Act 2018, GDPR, Health & Safety, UKVI, Equality and Diversity).
Essential Criteria

Education, Qualifications & Training – Good general education, Graduate level

Experience – Higher Education establishment, Higher Education Admissions, Use of databases, Independent working, Conflicting demands and priorities

Skills – Excellent written and verbal communication, Relationship building and networking, Attention to detail and confidentiality, Customer focus, Problem solving, Organisation and time management, IT and word‑processing (Word/Excel)

Special Requirements – Ability to work overtime, including weekends; schedule annual leave around busy periods; cross‑campus work between High Wycombe and Uxbridge.
