Job description

We are looking to recruit a friendly, professional Admiral Nurse to deliver a specialist service across Northumbria Primary Care (NPC) and Northumberland. This is a new and exciting collaboration between Dementia UK and NPC. Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who offer expert practical, clinical and emotional support to families involved in the care of a person living with dementia with complex needs.

We are looking for someone who is driven and committed to developing this new Admiral Nursing service, and who is passionate about helping those with Dementia.

The position will be of special interest to nurses looking to enhance their leadership and communication skills. We are looking for a skilled Registered Nurse either already working as an Admiral Nurse or from an adult/mental health/learning disability background.

You will have a passion for, and a demonstrable track record of, providing person-centred and relationship-centred dementia care. You will have the ability to combine direct work with patients and also their families, to support them with the best practice of health and social care professionals. You will also possess experience of delivering bio-psychosocial interventions to improve the experience and quality of life of families affected by dementia.

You will be involved in developing the service to improve the experience of carers/families affected by dementia with complex needs.

Responsibilities
  • Specialist bio-psychosocial assessment and support for people with dementia and families with complex needs.
  • Facilitation of education and training for staff in the delivery of evidence-based dementia care.
  • Clinical leadership with policy development and quality improvements in relation to dementia care.
  • Consultancy to other health and social care professionals regarding dementia.
Key Skills and Experience

Registered Nurse with experience as an Admiral Nurse or background in adult mental health/learning disability; demonstrated track record of person-centred dementia care; ability to combine direct work with patients and families; experience delivering bio-psychosocial interventions; strong leadership and communication skills; ability to work across wide rural geography.

Working Arrangements

The Admiral Nurse will support, deliver and coordinate relationship-centred dementia care across NPC. You will be based within a multi-disciplinary, primary care network, working alongside nurses, therapists, GPs, social care and third sector providers, amongst others. You may be asked to work at other practices across the group but continuity is vital. NPC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
