Receptionist - Job Description
Job Title:Administrator
Responsible for:N/A
Job Purpose:To ensure that the reception area of the Practice runs smoothly, provides a high level of service to patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the Practice team
Telephone Duties
- 1. Making appointments
- 2. Taking requests for prescriptions from housebound patients
- 3. Giving out results
- 4. Ambulance transport bookings for on the day service
- 5. Home visit requests
- 6. Deal with general enquiries and complaints
- 7. Contacting other providers
Reception Duties
- 8. Register new patients and temporary residents, when required
- 9. Greet and direct patients and visitors
- 10. Making appointments
- 11. Handing out prescriptions
- 12. Ensure outstanding queries are explained and handed over to next shift, as necessary
- 13. Respond to needs of doctors and nurses during surgery
- 14. Collect payments from patients for non-NHS services
- 15. Deal with general enquiries and complaints
Filing
- 16. Filing and retrieving paperwork as requested (eg. Lloyd George envelopes)
Prescriptions
- 17. Dealing with requests for repeat prescriptions
- 18. Raising prescriptions as per Practice protocols
- 19. Dealing with queries relating to prescriptions
General
- 20. Input and extract information from Practice computer system
- 21. Observe health and safety guidelines at all times
- 22. Observe Confidentiality policy and guidelines at all times
- 23. Maintaining security in accordance with practice protocols
- 24. Maintain a good working knowledge of practice IT and Telephone systems
- 25. Support the equality, diversity and rights of patients, carers and colleagues
- 26. Have an overview/ responsibility of admin tasks (eg. cytology admin, recalls)
- 27. Communicate effectively with team members and patients.
- 28. General housekeeping (e.g. keeping reception and waiting areas tidy)
- 29. Any other reasonable duties as necessary

Experience
- Experience of working within the NHS
- Experience of working in General Practice
- Experience of working within GP Medical Reception
- Experience of working as a medical secretary
