Job description
The Team

The Administrative Assistant is part of a collaborative and client-focused team within the Department of Health Tasmania, often working in units such as the Office of the Chief Risk Officer (OCRO) or community health centres. The team supports a wide range of administrative functions that are essential to the smooth operation of Tasmania’s public health services. This includes managing reception duties, coordinating appointments, maintaining records, and supporting internal communications.

The Role

As part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the Mental Health Services Strategic Plan, Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Administrative Assistant provides day to day administrative support to a designated team/unit within Mental Health North and contributes towards optimal administrative and business support processes.

You will need
  • Provide telephone and reception services, assist with client outpatient bookings, and ensure the prompt, sensitive and confidential handling of enquiries and routine matters.
  • Manage and maintain medical and general filing and information systems in a timely and proficient manner, including updating of client details on the computer system.
  • Undertake coding, entry and dissemination of accounts, generating purchase orders, and maintaining service unit petty cash, ensuring accurate storage, access and usage.

Details of appointment

Permanent part time, day worker position, working 30.4 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

Hours are negotiable with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$66,049 to $70,993 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.

You’ll have access to salary packaging a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year plus other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (CAMHS–N positions only).

It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

  • Completion or working towards Certificate III in Business Administration.
