Job summary

The Musculoskeletal Service Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin brings together partner organisations across the county, including Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals and the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, to provide quality assistance to patients with musculoskeletal concerns within the population of Shropshire.

Main duties of the job

You will work within a team to provide high quality administrative support to our multidisciplinary team of practitioners, be a point of contact for our service users and liaise with partner organisations to support the delivery of an effective and efficient service.

The successful candidate must have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with a pleasant telephone manner, organisational skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to remain calm under pressure. A flexible approach to work and an understanding of working in a busy environment with competing priorities and changing demands under minimal supervision is also essential.

You will be friendly and approachable and have a positive attitude to work. You will be able to use your own initiative when necessary, working with people and engaging with colleagues at all levels and have an understanding for the need for confidentiality at all times.

You will be computer literate with experience of Word and Excel, have excellent keyboard skills and ideally have some knowledge of working in a clinically based service with a knowledge of medical terminology.

Training And Qualifications
  • RSA Stage II Word Processing/Typing qualification or ability to demonstrate equivalent standard and experience.
  • Good knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Able to demonstrate a good level of maths commensurate with maintaining referral and activity data.
  • Able to demonstrate a good level of English language and grammar commensurate with composing own letters and ability to correct other correspondence as necessary.
Experience
  • Experience of interfacing with clinical staff and understanding of their roles, specialities and responsibilities.
  • Experience of booking and managing appointments via an electronic booking system.
  • Significant experience in an administrative role.
Knowledge And Skills
  • Excellent secretarial, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience of all major Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to problem-solve and resolve day-to-day IT programme problems.
  • Able to exercise initiative in facilitating effective management of day to day workload to show a measure of unsupervised judgement.
