A National Health Service Provider is seeking a full-time Administration & Clerical Officer to support the development of a bowel cancer screening programme. Candidates must possess a minimum of 4 GCSEs, including English and Maths, and an NVQ Level 2 in Administration. The role requires excellent communication and organizational skills, providing vital support in a healthcare setting. This position is based in Shrewsbury with cross-site work required.

The Shropshire Bowel Cancer Screening Centre offers a unique opportunity to recruit a full‑time Administration & Clerical Officer to support the continued development of a national programme.
The post‑holder will be based at William Farr House at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but will be required to work regularly at the service’s other screening site, The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford. The service currently runs over 6 days, Monday to Saturday, however this may extend to 7‑day working as the programme expands.
To fulfil this role you will need good communication and organisational skills, the ability to work under pressure, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines. Keyboard skills with experience of data inputting are essential. You must also have 4 GCSEs, including English and Maths (grade 4‑9 or equivalent), an NVQ Level 2 in Administration or equivalent, and previous office experience.
The role involves general administrative duties: assisting with the organisation of patient appointments, ensuring all relevant databases are maintained accurately, retrieving patient case notes and filing. You will also support senior members of staff, take minutes in the absence of the co‑ordinator and respond to telephone calls from patients, carers and professional staff.
The team consists of a Programme Manager, Lead Specialist Screening Practitioner, Programme Co‑ordinator, 5 Admin & Clerical Officers and 13 Specialist Screening Practitioners. The Centre has managed the screening programme covering Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin since 2009, with sites at the Royal Shrewsbury and the Princess Royal Hospital. The service currently offers diagnostic tests for 50‑74 year olds in Shropshire after a positive faecal immunochemical test (FIT), in addition to colonoscopy surveillance of patients with Lynch Syndrome.
