School Admin Assistant

Teaching Personnel has an Admin Assistant role in a Durham secondary school. If you've worked in a school office before and you're after full-time hours in a busy environment, keep reading.

What the job involves:

You're the first person parents, visitors, and staff speak to - so you need to be organised, calm under pressure, and good with people. Daily tasks include managing phones and emails, updating pupil records, handling attendance and registers, supporting safeguarding procedures, and helping senior leadership with general admin. It's varied work and the pace picks up during term time.

You'll need:
  • Office admin experience
  • Strong IT skills - particularly databases and ideally SIMS
  • Good organisational skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks
  • Professional but approachable manner
  • Understanding of safeguarding basics

School offices are busy, sometimes stressful, and you deal with everything from routine queries to upset parents to urgent safeguarding concerns. You need to stay calm and efficient.
