ADCU Senior Sister/Charge Nurse

The post holder will have 24-hour responsibility for the safe, effective clinical practice and efficient management of the department/ward. They will provide professional, inclusive, inspirational leadership and direction to all members of the team and be professionally accountable for the maintenance of standards of professional practice and care within their department.

The post holder is accountable for managing and developing team performance, managing a devolved budget and ensuring efficient use of physical and human resources. They will undertake and supervise clinical practice, audit, research and teaching to monitor and continuously improve standards of care and patient experience.

Main duties of the job
  • Be professionally accountable for the maintenance of standards and professional practice as set by the CQC Regulatory standards and the NMC Code of Professional Standards of practice, behaviour and relevant professional guidelines.
  • Carry overall responsibility for the organisation and management of ward/department, including the supervision of students and wider MDT.
  • Provide a clear focus for clinical leadership and be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care.
  • Be accountable for co‑ordinating patient care, the management of resources and performance of staff.
  • Use a range of resources/tools to set and monitor standards of clinical practice and care, continually exploring ways to improve standards of care and patient experience.
  • Ensure safe and effective clinical practice.
  • Lead, manage and develop team performance, promote professionalism and trust.
  • Ensure the promotion and implementation of flexible and family‑friendly working in accordance with trust policies.
  • Ensure effective delivery of organisational objectives.
  • Ensure efficient and effective use of resources, managing a devolved budget.
  • Ensure effective capacity management, including discharge planning and utilisation of the discharge lounge.
  • Ensure effective succession planning at all Bands.
  • Active promotion of the Trusts' visions, values and divisional objectives.
