University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust seeks a highly skilled nurse to support the Acute Oncology Service. You will provide early input on specialist nursing assessment and clinical management for unscheduled oncology emergencies, including chemotherapy-related complications, cancer-related issues, and unknown primary concerns.
The role involves triage, collaboration with oncology teams, and contributing to the development of acute oncology pathways within the Trust and wider health community.
This is a 12 month fixed term Maternity cover within the AOS service, to work closely with the Lead Acute Oncology CNS, ACPs and Oncology Consultants to provide early input of Specialist Oncological assessment and clinical management advice for unscheduled oncology emergency admissions with regard to complications related to chemotherapy, complications of cancer or suspected unknown primary cancer.
Please note AOS is a 7 day a week service and shifts are all 8-6.30pm. There is an expectation that all nurses work 1 weekend per month.
The post holder will give expert advice and implement patient care in an area which requires specific clinical knowledge, skills and experience. The post holder will work alongside other clinical colleagues in oncology, palliative care, acute medicine, radiology and pathology to manage the care of individual patients, ensuring quality of care is maximized.
To work in all areas of Acute Oncology, including telephone triage, Oncology SDEC, elective procedures, daily Consultant ward round, Tracking of the MUO patients, CNS to the CUP patients and MSCC coordination.

The postholder will have extensive knowledge and experience of working within oncology, and administration of SACT.
Under direction of the Lead AOS CNS, the postholder will assist in coordinating the acute oncology service and provide early input of specialist nursing care to oncology patients.
To make appropriate triage and clinical decisions following assessment utilizing specialist knowledge in this specialty, underpinned by theory and experience.
