Job summary

Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an oncology nurse to join the Acute Oncology team in a development role. The post holder will work alongside CSS and ACPs to develop acute oncology skills and further training within the service at Barnet Hospital.

Key duties include contributing to clinical practice development, MDT support, and leading audits to improve patient pathways in the Acute Oncology Service across Royal Free and Barnet hospitals.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to ongoing development of clinical practice, audit and standards of care within the service.
  • Work with clinical, operational, information and administrative staff across all levels within the acute Trust.
  • Support the Lead Acute Oncology Service (AOS) Nurse to deliver and evaluate the service.
  • Provide AOS CNS support to MDTs across the Royal Free and Barnet hospitals.
  • Work with key MDT members to support staff in delivering specialised care.
  • Deliver specialist care autonomously, evidence-based, and improve patient care.
  • Review admitted patients on wards and ED daily.
  • Assist ED to ensure suspected neutropenia patients receive antibiotics within door-to-needle time.
  • Carry the AOS emergency phone, triage calls and liaise with the patient's oncology team for follow-up.
  • Contribute to training and education within the specialist area to multidisciplinary groups.
  • Coordinate investigations for CUP patients to ensure a smooth pathway while remaining their CNS throughout treatment.
  • Ensure CUP patients have a holistic needs assessment.
  • Act as the MSCC coordinator and ensure care aligns with NICE guidance and local policy.
  • Lead and facilitate audits of AOS, CUP and MSCC using evidence-based practice and research.
