Job summary

St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a locum consultant in acute medicine for 12 months based in the Acute Medicine Unit. The role centres on managing emergency admissions and building the link with primary care and the Emergency Department.

You will cover on-call and weekend rotas, work within a 51-bed AMU including the Amyand short-stay ward, and participate in education and governance.

Qualifications

• MRCP or equivalent required.
• Advanced Life Support certification required.
• Full GMC registration.
• Entry on the Specialist Register for general or acute medicine, with or without a complementary specialty.

Responsibilities

• Manage emergency ambulatory and inpatient medical admissions.
• Triage referrals from primary care, SDEC and the Emergency Department to ambulatory care or admission avoidance clinics.
• Take responsibility for ongoing care of patients admitted in the previous 24 hours on day two of their stay.
• Cover the acute medicine on-call rota, physician of the week and Amyand ward rotas.
• Work weekends and cover the medical SDEC service.
• Take part in the ongoing development of the Acute Medicine Unit and its clinical interface with primary care and the Emergency Department.
• Contribute to clinical governance.
• Take part in undergraduate, postgraduate and multidisciplinary education.
