Job summary

Pension Insurance Corporation is seeking an Actuary to join the Financial Planning & Analysis function within Finance. The role collaborates across Finance, Origination, Investments and Risk to apply FP&A insights for policyholders and shareholders.

Key responsibilities include forecasting for senior management, maintaining Solvency Monitoring, and assisting Business Plan projections, with emphasis on learning and development in both technical and non-technical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support in the preparation of regular forecasts and business plans for PIC’s senior management and shareholders, delivering drafts to senior team members.
  • Assist the preparation and maintenance of the weekly Solvency Monitoring tool.
  • Support the Business Plan projections and liaise with senior team members.
  • Address ad-hoc queries from shareholders and stakeholders, performing analysis and drafting responses.
  • Own learning and development in technical and non-technical skills.
  • Support Stress and Scenario Testing on balance sheet and Business Plan projections.

Job description

Pension Insurance Corporation ("PIC") provides secure retirement incomes through comprehensive risk management and excellence in asset and liability management, as well as exceptional customer service. Our purpose is to pay the pensions of our current and future policyholders.

PIC has a fantastic opportunity for an Actuary to join its Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function within the Finance department. The function's aim is to delivery relevant and timely insight to Finance, ExCo and the Board to support effective decision making.

This role requires the ability to effectively collaborate with Finance, Origination, Investments, Risk, and other departments at PIC as well as to apply knowledge and insights concerning FP&A activities and how these impact our policyholders and shareholders.

Specific accountabilities assigned to the role of Actuary within FP&A:

  • Support in the preparation of regular forecasts and business plan for PIC’s senior management and shareholders, delivering draft forecasts to senior members of the team. Assist the preparation of and the maintaining the weekly Solvency Monitoring tool
  • Support in preparation of PIC’s Business Plan projections, working effectively with senior members of the team
  • Support addressing of ad-hoc queries from shareholders and other key stakeholders, performing analysis and preparing first drafts of responses
  • Takes ownership for their own learning and development in both technical (e.g. data analysis and critical judgement) and non-technical (self-insight and relationship management) skills
  • Support Stress and Scenario Testing, both on the balance sheet and Business Plan projections

Experience:

  • Recently (or nearly) qualified actuary
  • Desirable: experience in working in a business partnering or FP&A function within a UK life insurance environment

Knowledge:

  • Good technical knowledge of financial reporting in a UK life insurance environment
  • Desirable: knowledge of UK DB pensions and/or bulk annuities
  • Desirable: Competence in use of actuarial modelling software, e.g. RAFM
