Job summary

Zurich Insurance is offering a 10-week General Insurance actuarial internship in the UK. Start date June 2027 with multiple office locations, including London and Birmingham.

The internship provides real responsibility and a buddy system to help you settle in as you learn from qualified actuaries. You will experience actuarial reserving and pricing paths, with internal training and a focus on developing technical skills.

Qualifications

• Penultimate year of study in STEM or economics with a 2.1 or above.
• GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
• Mathematics A-level grade
• 128 UCAS points from 3 A-Levels (or equivalent).
• Indefinite, full right to work in the UK with 3+ years residency.

Responsibilities

• Work on real actuarial business challenges within General Insurance.
• Assist actuarial reserving by analysing future claims costs using data and statistical techniques.
• Assist actuarial pricing by analysing risk, customer behaviour and market trends.
• Learn from experienced actuaries and attend internal training to build foundation for an actuarial career.
• Contribute to a 10-week internship with meaningful responsibilities and support.

As part of the actuarial team, you’ll learn from experienced actuaries and analysts across the UK and our wider global business. You’ll be supported every step of the way, starting with a dedicated buddy before you join, who’ll help you settle in and answer any questions as you begin your career.

Within our General Insurance business, there are two exciting actuarial pathways:

• Actuarial reserving- Help answer one of the most important questions in insurance: how much will future claims cost? You’ll use data, statistical techniques, and analytical thinking to predict future outcomes, identify emerging trends, provide valuable business insights, and support capital management decisions. Your work will play a key role in ensuring the long-term strength and stability of the business.
• Actuarial pricing- Discover how data drives business decisions. You’ll help determine the price of insurance products by analysing risk, customer behaviour, and market trends. From improving customer segmentation to developing innovative pricing models and technology, you’ll contribute to solutions that keep us competitive while delivering value to customers.

As well as working alongside qualified actuaries, we also provide internal actuarial training to help you understand some of the other work we do, so you can get insight into work that you may not necessarily get a chance to be involved in.

What you’ll need:

Although we are a hybrid workforce, you should be within a commutable distance from your assigned office workplace stated in this advert

• You’ll need strong mathematical skills, as an analytical approach and a high level of numerical aptitude are essential
• The ability to learn new technical skills, be comfortable with large amounts of data or information, and have an eye for detail
• Excellent team-working, communication and interpersonal skills
• A strong interest in pursuing an actuarial career post‑graduation, alongside maintaining office performance

Entry Requirements:

• You must be in your penultimate year of study and on course to achieve a 2.1 (or above) in a STEM related or economics degree subject at a undergraduate level (or equivalent).
• A minimum C/4 grade in both English and Mathematics at GCSE level (or equivalent).
• A minimum Mathematics A grade at A-level
• At least 128 UCAS points from 3 A-Level subjects (or equivalent)
• You must have an indefinite, full right to work and reside in the UK. We cannot accept applications from those who require sponsorship to work in the UK. You must have resided in the UK for a minimum of three consecutive years.
