Job description

An opportunity has arisen to join the Therapy Team at Atherleigh Park Hospital for an Activity Co-ordinator. An interest in a range of creative, social and physical activities and a passion to share your knowledge and skills with people so they progress their Recovery is essential. There are five wards at the hospital for adults and older persons. We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic people to work on our Adult and Older Person wards including our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit. It is an established role and the post holders will collaborate in the planning, development and provision of a range of therapeutic, wellbeing and social activities for service users on wards and in our therapy hub.

The Therapy Team consists of Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Assistant Psychologists, Activity co-ordinators and Therapy Assistants as well as the ward health care teams. The post involves working with the multi-disciplinary team to promote the use of activity on a ward and off the ward in our Therapy Hub area. You will be working a seven day a week rota between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00 and provide patient centred, Recovery based activities with the aim of supporting discharge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of a qualified practitioner the post holder will plan and coordinate and implement a range of individual and group activities designed to meet the needs of the services users.
  • The post holder will be required to use their initiative when working independently on the wards and are expected to report any clinical progress or change to a qualified practitioner and record findings in electronic care records.
  • The post holder will demonstrate an attitude which respects and values service users’ and their carer’s.
  • The post holder will embrace the core values of the organisation and adopt the principles of Recovery. Promote safe practice; Value the aims of service users; Work in partnership and offer meaningful choice; Be optimistic about the possibilities of meaningful change; Value social inclusion.
  • The post holder will contribute to filling a rota that operates 7 days a week between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00.
