Job summary

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a General Lead Radiographer (Core Services) to manage the plain film service across Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals. Reporting to Radiology Operations leadership, the post holder will lead staffing, drive quality standards, promote development, and deputise as needed, with a focus on audit-driven improvements.

The service runs 24/7 with some additional hours occasionally required.

Qualifications

• Special interest in general radiography and advanced practice; willing to work towards a postgraduate qualification.

Responsibilities

• Vision, Strategy and Business development
• Contribute to service redesign of radiology in conjunction with directorate objectives
• Contribute to the development of the radiology department providing leadership within its strategic work plan as part of the radiology management structure
• Support the radiology management team in the procurement and installation of new equipment
• To ensure all Radiographers have met the departmental Standards of Competencies and have a record of their training and proficiency in all necessary protocols and procedures
• To assist all staff with their own programme of Continuous Professional Development in relation to plain film imaging
• Review departmental protocols in line with relevant evidence based practice and update as required
• Lead and advice staff on the planning process to meet Radiology and service targets
• To work closely with the senior team to accommodate all requirements for effective delivery and ensure compliance with National Diagnostic targets
• To be the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) for plain film and dental imaging
• To evaluate capacity and demand, lead on Datix and incidence investigation

Job Overview (Fixed Term Until February 2027)

To work at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a General Lead Radiographer (Core Services) working at both Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals.

The post holder will be responsible for the daily operational function of the plain film service on both sites, ensuring all areas are adequately staffed.

They will be a role model for the radiographic staff providing clinical leadership, promoting the development and maintenance of high quality standards in addition to managerial responsibilities within the modality.

Deputise in the absence of Radiology Operations Manager and or Head of Radiology.

To constantly monitor the effectiveness of the departmental protocols and procedures; if necessary using audit outcomes or research from internal or external sources to initiate new protocols and procedures

The post holder will have a special interest in general radiography and advance practice and have or be willing to work towards a post graduate qualification as required.

The Plain Film Service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with core hours between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday. The service is staffed by means of a shift system. The post holder will be expected to support this service and participate in the shift system. There may be opportunity for occasional additional working hours outside of this, as required or to provide emergency staffing cover for the out of hours service.
