Job summary

Actemium Design, part of VINCI Energies, is seeking Mechanical Designers and Engineers at all levels to join our growing UK design offices in Chorley or Whitehaven. You will work across projects from concept to detail design in regulated industries, delivering safe, compliant, and efficient mechanical solutions.

Hybrid/flexible arrangements and a comprehensive benefits package are offered. Ideal candidates have experience with 2D/3D CAD (AutoCAD, Inventor or similar), knowledge of UK/EU

Qualifications

• Qualified in mechanical engineering (Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent).
• Experience in regulated sectors such as nuclear, energy, oil & gas, process or heavy industry preferred.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, systems, and plant/equipment design.
• Experience producing or checking 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar).
• Knowledge of UK and international engineering standards and regulations.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
• Analytical and detail-focused with a drive for continuous improvement.
• Full UK driving licence or willingness to travel to sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to mechanical design deliverables including layouts, detailed components, 3D CAD models, calculations, and reports.
• Collaborate with EC&I, process, and project management teams for integrated solutions.
• Apply mechanical engineering principles to safe, robust, and cost-effective designs.
• Perform engineering calculations and validation to verify fitness-for-purpose and compliance.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, safety studies, and constructability workshops.
• Review and check technical documents, drawings, and calculations, supporting quality improvements.
• Share knowledge, mentor junior engineers and designers, and foster learning.
• Prepare technical specifications, project documentation, procurement packages, and client proposals.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to the development of high-quality mechanical design deliverables, such as equipment layout drawings, detailed component designs, 3D CAD models, calculations, and technical reports.

Essential Skills & Experience for Mechanical Design Engineers

• Relevant qualification in mechanical engineering (Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent experience).

• Proven background in mechanical design ideally within regulated sectors — for example, nuclear, energy, oil & gas, process or heavy industry.

• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, mechanical systems and assemblies, and plant/equipment design.

• Experience producing or checking 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar).

• Knowledge of UK and international engineering standards and statutory regulations.

• Ability to communicate effectively—explaining concepts clearly and engaging with diverse teams and clients.

• Analytical and detail-focused, with problem-solving skills and a drive for continuous improvement.

• Full UK driving licence or ability to travel to client/project sites as needed.
