Job description

Fresh Food, Happy Dogs.

We believe dogs deserve the healthiest, most natural and tastiest meals - with none of the nasties. That’s why we make FRESHly prepared food, cooked just like you would at home and delivered direct to our customers in perfect portions. As a B-Corp certified company, you’re joining a sustainable business that genuinely cares about our people, our products and our impact on the planet. Our goal is simple: to help dogs live healthier, happier, and longer lives, while leaving humans smiling after every interaction.

We’ve come a long way since our co‑founders (Kev & Dave), hand delivered the very first Butternut Box. Today, we feed hundreds of thousands of hungry dogs across the UK and Europe - but we won’t stop until we’re feeding dogs everywhere. To get there, we need a team of brilliant people who share that ambition to come and work for us.

The job:

Please note that this role will close on: 23rd of October.

We're on the lookout for an Acquisition Marketing Lead to join our UK & Ireland teams as part of our wider Marketing team. This is a hybrid role where the successful candidate will be expected to work from our office in White City, London, three times a week: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

As a direct-to-consumer e-commerce business, we prioritise driving growth through our digital marketing endeavours. Our goal? To establish ourselves as the leading fresh dog food company in the UK, maintaining a strong growth trajectory over the next 5 years.

Working closely with the Marketing Director, you'll be spearheading the development and execution of our non-paid acquisition channels, including ambassadors, affiliates, partnerships, and referrals. Your role also involves shaping our forward-looking wider marketing strategy.

You’ll have a defined scope that you and your team will manage. Your efforts will span various objectives aimed at evolving our customer base, from acquiring new customers and boosting inflows through existing non-paid channels to developing what our product and processes look like to ensure we’re acquiring the right customers at scale from the right sources.

Being part of a broader marketing team will provide you with exposure to diverse marketing initiatives, offering a more comprehensive perspective on how digital marketing fuels business growth.

In this role, you can expect to:
  • Manage and develop 2-3 squad members responsible for execution and development across our non-paid channels.
  • Be responsible for investment steering to provide the highest possible return.
  • Be responsible for reporting and evaluation of efforts to share with members of the wider company and our leadership team.
  • Work with our Digital Product team to drive improvements to our digital products and customer journeys.
  • Work with our creative team to ensure we are developing and optimising our assets to drive an increasing level of performance.
  • Be instrumental in proposing, devising, and developing our non-paid marketing strategies and testing our roadmap.
  • Work with our international teams, sharing insights, best practices, and test results.
  • Have a close relationship with our performance marketing functions, conducting tests aimed at accelerating growth with the help of top of the funnel activity.
What we're looking for:
  • Be a hands‑on expert in the management of non-paid marketing channels, understanding industry level trends and developments.
  • Have a proven track record of building and scalling ambassador & affiliate programmes and managing teams in previous roles.
  • Be proficient in managing and optimising initiatives towards direct performance metrics such as cost per acquisition (CPA), return on investment (ROI), and LTV.
  • Be familiar with the intricacies and dynamics involved with a subscription business.
  • Be target driven and passionate about digital marketing. You should always be looking to go further, learn more, and outperform yourself.
  • Have a strong understanding of the wider pet care ecosystem and be confident finding and developing relationships and opportunities within the space to acquire customers.
  • Have a highly investigative mindset and always be looking to turn insight into action.
  • Strong reporting skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • A willingness to be versatile and eager to learn new skills and lean into new trends.
  • Strong communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders and the ability to communicate complex information in a digestible manner.
  • Share our belief that dogs deserve better!
The interview process:
  1. Initial call with your dedicated Talent Acquisition Partner, carried out remotely.
  2. Take home task: this will be sent to you via email.
  3. Skills interview, usually carried out remotely for 90 minutes.
  4. Behaviours interviews (2x 45 minute interviews 1x 30 minute interview), in person, in our office in White City.

We usually expect our interview process to take 3-5 weeks, end to end.

Our benefits:
  • 25 days holiday (plus 8 bank holidays) and an additional day for every year of service up to 5 years
  • 5 additional, paid 'paws' days off per year dedicated to your learning, development or personal wellbeing. Hit pause when you need it most
  • £500 personal learning & development budget to sharpen your skills
  • Share options grant - everyone owns a piece of Butternut's success.
  • A significant discount on our Fresh food, to keep your own dogs as healthy as our customers
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Flexible core working hours
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Pension with NEST
  • Private Medical Insurance with Vitality
  • Private Dental Insurance with Bupa
  • Paid time off for fertility treatments and pregnancy loss
  • Paid sabbaticals for squad members with 5 or more years service at Butternut
  • Discounted gym access through MyGymDiscounts
  • Lots of office dogs (Ajax, Peggy, Chief, Louis, Hansen, Winnie and many more….)
Important things to note:
  • Our team thrives on collaboration. We spend 3 days a week in our West London office (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and 2 days working from wherever you’re most productive. Because being together is a big part of our culture, we’re looking for someone within a comfortable commutable distance to London.

  • We’re a small (but mighty!) recruitment team. We aim to respond to everyone personally, but if we’re flooded with brilliant applications, we may need to close the role early. We appreciate your patience while we review applications.

  • For this specific role, we’re unable to offer visa sponsorship, so you’ll need the right to work in the UK.
We believe in a seat at the table for everyone.

Butternut Box is an equal opportunity employer. We believe that to make the best food for all dogs, we need a team that represents all humans. We celebrate different nationalities, backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. We are specifically committed to increasing representation from underrepresented groups. We want a strong, diverse team built from different identities and lived experiences. We’re not perfect, but we are dedicated to the ongoing work of building an inclusive, supportive place where you can do the best work of your career.
