Job description
Overview

We're looking for someone who's ready to grow their skills in finance and payroll, with plenty of support along the way. If you enjoy working with numbers, solving problems, and being part of a team, this could be a great fit.

Client details

You'll be joining a business that genuinely cares about its people. It's a place where colleagues support each other, development is encouraged, and your ideas are welcomed. The team is friendly, down-to-earth, and proud of the work they do - and they're looking forward to welcoming someone new.

Description

This is a varied and hands-on Accounts Assistant role within a busy finance team. You\'ll be involved in processing payroll for around 300 employees, which includes handling monthly adjustments like overtime, holidays, and absences, setting up new starters, and managing leavers. You\'ll also help with pension contributions and ensure everything is accurate before payslips go out.

Beyond payroll, you\'ll support the wider finance function with tasks like preparing VAT returns, reconciling bank and credit card statements, and helping with month-end reporting. You\'ll be involved in producing balance sheet reconciliations, analysing variances against budget, and assisting with year-end audits.

There\'s also the chance to get involved in day-to-day finance tasks such as raising invoices, processing expenses, and helping with customer statements. It\'s a great opportunity to build a broad understanding of finance in a supportive environment, with plenty of room to learn and grow.

Profile

This role suits a curious and reliable Accounts Assistant who enjoys working with detail. You don\'t need to know everything from day one - what matters most is your willingness to learn and get stuck in. You\'ll be working with a supportive team, so being open to asking questions and sharing ideas will go a long way.

You\’ll be successful here if you:

  • Take pride in getting things right and spotting the small details
  • Can manage your time well and stay organised, especially when things get busy
  • Feel comfortable using Excel and learning new systems
  • Communicate clearly and enjoy working with others
  • Are happy to take on a mix of tasks and adapt as needed

Payroll experience is helpful, but not essential. If you\'ve worked in a transactional finance role or have a general interest in finance, that\'s a great starting point

Job Offer

This is a full-time, office-based role based in Skelmersdale.

You'll work either 8:30am-5pm with an hour for lunch, or 9am-5pm with a 30-minute lunch - whichever suits you best.

As part of the team, you'll have access to a range of benefits including:

  • 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays)
  • Study support for a recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA or CIMA)
  • Pension scheme via salary sacrifice
  • Employee wellbeing support, including GP access and counselling
  • Retail, leisure, and holiday discounts
  • Free onsite parking and uniform
  • Recommend-a-friend bonus (up to £2,000)
  • Death in Service cover from day one
  • Ongoing training and development to support your career
