Job summary

Barratt Developments plc in Gateshead is seeking a Finance Assistant to support the finance team with monthly management accounts and front-line processing. The role emphasizes accuracy, timely payments, and strong ledger maintenance.

You will work to tight deadlines, develop reconciliation skills, and may pursue accounting qualifications while contributing to ad hoc projects and reports as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist and ensure accurate and timely payments and accounts are appropriately serviced.
• Own & reconcile the bank account/ cash book, including writing and banking cheques.
• Maintenance & reconciliation of petty cash.
• Verifying the accuracy of invoices and other accounting documents or records.
• Salary inputs expenses, mileage and commissions.
• Update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers and other records detailing financial transactions.
• Monthly/Quarterly Annual Returns.
• Ensure accurate accounting for VAT, subcontractors tax and CITB payments as appropriate.
• Assist in ad hoc projects, tasks and reports as and when required.

Reporting to the Accountant,youwillsupport the Finance team in ensuring the monthly management accounts are completed to meet required deadlines.

You will be expected to:

• Assist and ensure accurate and timely payments and accounts are appropriately serviced
• Own & reconcile the bank account/ cash book, including writing and banking cheques
• Maintenance & reconciliation of petty cash
• Verifying the accuracy of invoices and other accounting documents or records
• Salary inputs expenses, mileage and commissions
• Update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers and other records detailing financial business transactions (e.g., disbursements, expense vouchers, receipts, accounts payable)
• Monthly/Quarterly Annual Returns
• Ensure accurate accounting for VAT, subcontractors tax and CITB payments as appropriate
• Assist in ad hoc projects, tasks and reports as and when required
