A growing housing developer seeks an Accounts Assistant in Northallerton to support financial operations. You will process invoices, maintain ledgers, and support month-end activities. The ideal candidate has 1-3 years of experience in accounts and strong Excel skills. This is a temporary to permanent role, offering £15-£17 per hour.

Role: Accounts Assistant

Location: Northallerton

Pay: £15 - £17.00 per hour PAYE

Contract: Temp to perm

Hours: Mon- Fri, 37 hours per week, 08:30 - 17:00 (early finish Fridays)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Accounts Assistant to support a growing housing developer delivering high-quality homes across Yorkshire and the North East.

Purpose of role

To provide accurate, timely and efficient support to the finance team, enabling robust financial control across the business, supporting ledger maintenance, reconciliations, supplier/customer queries, and assisting with month-end and job-costing processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process daily sales and purchase invoices (raising, checking, coding, posting)
  • Maintain purchase and sales ledgers, and reconcile supplier/customer statements
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations and cash-book maintenance
  • Chase outstanding supplier credits/queries and customer balances (credit control support)
  • Support the month-end close process: accruals, prepayments, journals, and control account reconciliations
  • Provide financial and administrative support to the Finance Manager: expense claims, petty cash, ad-hoc reporting and analysis
Key Responsibilities
  • Previous experience (ideally 1-3 years) in a similar accounts role
  • Experience of accounting software and strong Excel skills
  • Good communication skills - dealing with site teams, suppliers, finance team
  • Construction/dev/contractor experience would be advantageous (helpful but not essential)
  • Professional, reliable and able to keep confidentiality of financial information
