Job summary

SMBC Group EMEA seeks a Revenue Analyst / Assistant Vice President to join the Income Team within Management Reporting & Analytics. The role focuses on ensuring the integrity of Gross Profit data and providing technical accounting and reporting support across Management and Financial Accounting.

You will liaise with Front Office and Treasury, own EMEA revenue reporting, and contribute to MI produced for management and HO.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualified Accountant (or near qualified).
  • Banking experience with exposure to investment banking products.
  • Strong numerical and financial skills with ability to interpret financial information and design models.
  • Understanding IFRS & JGAAP and impact on SMFG entities.

Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We're looking for a Revenue Analyst / Assistant Vice President to join the Income Team, part of Management Reporting & Analytics in Strategic Planning Department, Finance & Control (STPD F&C).

Purpose of Job

  • Ensure integrity of Gross Profit data within TheMIS, delivering accurate and reliable Management Information (MI) for EMEA.
  • Provide technical accounting and reporting support across Management and Financial Accounting.
  • Act as a key SME within F&C for Treasury and Front Office P&L reporting, including investigation of reconciliation breaks.
  • Contribute to the production of Financial and Management Accounting Reports and Analysis for EMEA and Head Office.

Facts / Scale

  • Monitoring and commentating on actual performance against budgets of USD 200bn Balance Sheet, including USD 100bn of Funded Assets and USD 2bn+ for Gross Profit.
  • End-to-end ownership of the full revenue reporting process across month-end outputs (eg. HO and EMEA ALCO).
  • Provides direction and advice to Operations colleagues regarding transaction bookings.
  • Liaises closely with all Front Office departments in the monthly preparation of Profit figures, advising and explaining revenue recognition rationale.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualified Accountant (or near qualified).
  • Banking Experience with exposure to investment banking products.
  • Strong numerical and financial skills with the ability to interpret financial information and able to design and use financial models.
  • Able to understand new and existing Accounting Standards (IFRS & JGAAP) and to interpret the impact they will have on SMFG group entities.
  • Exposure to incomplete records accounting. i.e. FO/BO trades reconciliation.
  • Strong experience with data tools (Excel, Access, including AI tools) and ability to work with large datasets.
  • Can view problems from all angles and draw on external best practice to inform thinking.
  • Proactive mindset, willingness to learn and be able to present with solutions not issues.
Business Area

Background

The Team is responsible for revenue reporting, performance analysis and controls across EMEA entities. In particular, it is responsible for:

  • Producing the EMEA ALCO reporting (divisional results).
  • Ensuring SMBC BI bookings and performance reporting are accurate.
  • Ensure Management Accounting adjustments are accurate.
  • Preparing HO reporting and MI for SMBC BI, SMBC EU and SMBC branches
Position Description

Reporting & Control

  • Own the preparation and maintenance of monthly TheMIS data, including updates, consistency checks and reconciliations across all EMEA booking locations.
  • Monitor and validate allocation of revenue across Front Office, Treasury and Planning, ensuring appropriate attribution.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation breaks in a timely manner, providing clear root cause analysis.
  • Support delivery of key reporting outputs, including EMEA ALCO and Head Office submissions.
  • Perform TheMIS P&L analysis versus Oracle GL and other source systems to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with Front Office, Treasury, Planning and wider F&C teams to advise on transaction booking, revenue recognition, and reporting treatment.
  • Act as a key point of contact for P&L-related queries, providing clear explanations to stakeholders of varying seniority (including MD level).
  • Collaborate with Head Office and overseas branches to ensure alignment on EMEA transactions and reporting approach.
  • Communicate key P&L movements, allocations and variances to management through clear commentary and insights.

Change & Continuous Improvement

  • Proactively review existing reporting processes to identify inefficiencies, control gaps and operational risks.
  • Develop and implement enhancements, including automation and process improvements, to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Perform deep-dive analysis into data flows, systems and transactions to strengthen understanding of end-to-end reporting processes (with particular focus on Treasury activities).
  • Contribute to wider F&C and organisational initiatives (e.g. system enhancements, data projects, operational process improvements).

Governance & Documentation

  • Identify potential sources of reporting risk and ensure appropriate investigation, escalation and resolution.
  • Maintain and enhance robust control frameworks to support data integrity and reporting accuracy.
  • Ensure all processes and workflows are appropriately documented and kept up to date.
  • Lead system and data structure updates (e.g. new branch onboarding, organisational changes), ensuring appropriate design and control considerations.
