Job description

Base Location: Perth/Glasgow

Salary: £42,600-£64,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

Join us within the R2R Centre of Excellence team on our journey to shape the future of finance as we focus on continuous improvement, technical expertise and innovation where we will have the opportunity to deploy modern technology in a way that we have not been able to do before. This role is for an Accountant within our Renewables team; Your responsibilities will include delivering a smooth month end general ledger close, performing key account reconciliations and complying with external statutory financial reporting requirements. You will be involved in annual statutory audits, collaborating closely with external auditors. As part of the Centre of Excellence you will work collaboratively alongside other finance team members to drive best practices in reporting and processes across SSE Finance.

You will
  • Be involved in the month end process, through preparation of key journals and essential variance analysis commentary
  • Mentor and develop finance analysts to achieve their full potential.
  • Have key responsibilities for year end and half year processes, including the preparation and audit of statutory accounts.
  • Comply with Group financial control policies, including preparation of balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Seek opportunities to continuously improve processes to meet financial control requirements.
You have
  • A professional accounting qualification with practice or industry experience, in addition to up-to-date knowledge of IFRS and FRS101 accounting standards.
  • Ability to deliver high quality financial statements and liaise with auditors.
  • Solid analytical skills with ability to research, understand and interrogate a wide range of finance issues.
  • Strong time management skills to balance competing deadlines and deliverables across diverse stakeholders, along with the ability to manage expectations and adapt to changing business needs.
  • An understanding of core financial systems and general accounting procedures, coupled with flexibility, professionalism, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering quality work under pressure.
