Digital Account Director

Full Time

Portland is seeking an Account Director to lead high-quality digital communications for clients across sectors and markets. You will be the senior day-to-day digital adviser: connecting business and communications objectives to audience-led channel strategy, disciplined delivery and continual optimisation.

What success looks like
  • Trusted client counsel that sets and executes digital strategy in line with stakeholder needs and organisational priorities.
  • Integrated programmes that bring together organic social, paid media, web & SEO, influencer and content into one clear influence programme.
  • Digital campaigns delivered on time, on budget and with meaningful performance insight.
  • Practical, responsible advice on AI-enabled communications and generative-engine optimisation (GEO).
  • A collaborative digital team that grows its capability through coaching, experimentation and knowledge sharing.
Responsibilities
  • Lead digital strategies for clients across industries and markets, ensuring they are audience-led, integrated and aligned to wider communications objectives.
  • Advise clients on how to use their digital assets and channels most effectively to reach priority stakeholders and target audiences.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of integrated digital campaigns across clients' owned, earned and paid channels.
  • Oversee the delivery of client digital communications, including social media, websites and other online platforms, maintaining high standards of quality and consistency.
  • Devise and execute paid media strategies across LinkedIn, Meta and Google.
  • Develop and deliver influencer engagement strategies, from identifying the right partners through to activation, management and evaluation.
  • Lead GEO audits and translate findings into practical recommendations that strengthen visibility and performance across client channels and content.
  • Provide clear, practical counsel on the appropriate and responsible use of AI in communications, including opportunities to optimise content and workflows.
  • Manage the digital elements of client issues and crises, including rapid response, online reputation management and recovery activity.
  • Support new-business pitches and proposals with compelling digital insight, strategy and delivery plans.
  • Help build Portland’s understanding of, and capability in, innovative communications through knowledge sharing, coaching and collaboration.
Experience
Essential
  • At least seven years of relevant experience in a digital communications environment.
  • A proven record of leading digital communications across organic and paid social, web optimisation, content and integrated campaign delivery.
  • Hands-on strategic and delivery experience with LinkedIn, Meta and Google paid platforms, including planning, optimisation and performance reporting.
  • Demonstrable influencer strategy and activation experience, with sound judgement on partnership selection, briefing, measurement and disclosure.
  • Working knowledge of GEO and AI-mediated discovery.
  • Experience advising senior clients, leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written, presentation and interpersonal skills; commercially aware, organised and calm under pressure, particularly during issues or crises.
Desirable
  • Experience across multiple markets, regulated sectors or complex stakeholder environments.
  • Familiarity with social listening, web analytics, CMS, SEO and measurement tools.
  • Experience contributing to winning pitches, account growth or capability-building initiatives.
  • A commitment to inclusive communications and curiosity about culture, technology and changing audience behaviour.
