We help people into work, and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people. We're empowering colleagues to deliver products, services and internal communications which are accessible, inclusive and compliant.

The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

Our application process requires evidence of how you meet the following criteria:

  • Experience of front-end web development (HTML, CSS and JavaScript).
  • Experience of agile development, software design patterns, continuous integration, test driven development and version control (preferably Git).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience of identifying, locating and competently fixing faults.
  • Strong interest in and commitment to accessibility.
You and your role

As part of a one-year development programme, you'll gain in-depth knowledge of digital accessibility, assistive technologies, and relevant legislation and standards.

You’ll advise product teams on best practices for creating accessible web services and deliver training sessions to build capability across the organisation. You’ll also contribute to cross-government accessibility networks, sharing knowledge and driving improvements at scale.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include building interfaces that work seamlessly across devices and browsers, ensuring consistency in design and implementation across services. You’ll work in a test-driven development (TDD) environment, using modern web technologies to write and share high-quality, test-driven code aligned with UK government standards. Supporting code reuse and contributing to shared repositories will be central to your approach, helping to maintain efficiency and quality across projects.

As part of your continuous development, you’ll stay up to date with the latest front-end techniques, tools, and methods, ensuring that our services remain innovative and user-focused.
