Job summary

Mersey West Lancashire NHS Trust is seeking an Access Team Leader to drive the Access Team across Ormskirk and Southport sites. You will lead, motivate and develop staff, ensuring timely patient access and a high-quality service in a fast-paced NHS environment.

Work pattern is 8:00–18:00, Monday to Friday, with permanent full-time hours. The role requires strong leadership, communication and organisational skills to meet performance targets and deliver excellent patient experiences.

Qualifications

  • NVQ level 4 in administration or equivalent.
  • GCSE level with grade C or above (5 subjects) or equivalent.
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or equivalent ICT skills.

Main duties of the job

You will play a key role in leading, motivating, and developing the Access Team, providing clear guidance, effective training, and confident leadership to help every team member perform at their best. This is a fast‑paced and rewarding role, ideal for someone who brings energy, enthusiasm, and a flexible, can‑do approach to meeting the needs of the service.

You will oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the team, ensuring smooth workflows, strong communication, and a consistently high standard of service. Building positive relationships and fostering a supportive team culture will be central to your role, alongside delivering an excellent patient experience in line with Trust expectations.

Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

  • Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Qualifications
  • NVQ level 4 in administration or relevant other subject or equivalent level of knowledge
