Overview

Are you ready to make a difference? Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, the largest non-metropolitan Fire and Rescue Service in England, is on the lookout for an Academy Support Technician to join our Technical Rescue training delivery team. The role is based at our Service Headquarters in Exeter. This is a permanent, full-time position (37 hours per week) that offers a competitive salary starting at £26,824, rising annually to £28,598 per annum.

As an Academy Support Technician, you will provide logistical support to the Training Rescue Function as part of the Service Training Academy and undertake general preparation of training scenarios and support during training exercises. You will undertake maintenance of equipment, and will also be expected to be able to drive, including the use of trailers.

Responsibilities
  • To support the departments goals and objectives, in accordance with DSFRS policies and procedures and participate in a team-based environment.
  • To provide support to all training events with particular reference to preparation for training exercises, safety and subsequent maintenance and stowage after the training event. To ensure lecture rooms and other mobile facilities are fully equipped and ready for use by checking before and after.
  • To carry out maintenance of designated training equipment, including standard testing and maintenance of records.
  • To use the Service vehicles (including trailer) and to perform various duties including the collection and delivery of resources for training.
  • To assist in the security of the Training Academy site after 17:00hrs when required in so far as locking buildings and facilities before leaving sites.
  • To carry out some maintenance of grounds and facilities within training sites including liaison with contractors working at SHQ, fire alarm, heating, utilities, training tower etc.
  • To undertake other duties as required by your Line Manager, such as regularly testing the fire alarm system, checking safety systems and equipment, responding to health and safety issues.
  • To be responsible for maintaining inventory of training equipment.
  • To liaise with other team members within the department, other departments within the service, external agencies and other third-party contacts, as and when directed, or when required.
  • Maintain fleet and standard testing of vehicles used within the Academy Rescue Team.
