Job summary

Newcastle United is seeking an Academy Physiotherapist (FP & YDP) to deliver evidence-based physiotherapy for the Academy U9-U16 pathway in a Category 1 environment. You will assess, treat and rehabilitate injuries, supporting long-term player development and performance.

You'll work within an interdisciplinary team, collaborating with sports science, strength and conditioning, psychology and coaching staff, while upholding safeguarding and audit standards.

Qualifications

• Must hold a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and HCPC registration.
• FA Level 5 ATMMiF and CSP membership are required.
• Excellent communication and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
• Flexibility to work irregular hours and travel as required by Academy football.
• Experience in youth development or Elite Player Performance Plan is desirable.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and clinical governance standards.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality musculoskeletal assessments and rehab for academy players.
• Develop and implement individualised rehabilitation and return‑to‑play plans.
• Provide pitchside trauma care and urgent management during training and matches.
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in club systems.
• Support screening, profiling and monitoring across academy age groups.
• Collaborate with sports science, coaching, psychology and nutrition teams.
• Communicate clearly with players, parents and coaches about recovery progress.
• Contribute to clinician education, CPD and service development.

About the role

As Academy Physiotherapist (FP & YDP), you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy services to players within the Academy U9-U16 pathway. Working within a Category 1 environment, you will provide injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention support as part of an interdisciplinary team, contributing to player welfare, long-term athletic development and performance optimisation.

What you’ll do

• Deliver expert assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for Academy players.
• Design and implement individualised rehabilitation and return-to-play programmes.
• Provide pitchside trauma care for training and matchdays in line with FA and Premier League standards.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation on the Club’s electronic systems.
• Support screening, profiling and monitoring processes across Academy age groups.
• Work collaboratively with sports science, strength and conditioning, psychology, nutrition and coaching colleagues.
• Communicate clearly with players, parents and coaches regarding injury status and rehabilitation progress.
• Support clinical education, CPD initiatives and physiotherapy service development.
• Uphold safeguarding, clinical governance and EPPP audit standards.
• Contribute to player and parent education on injury prevention, recovery and wellbeing.

What you’ll bring

You will be an experienced and player-focused physiotherapist with strong clinical expertise in musculoskeletal assessment, rehabilitation and pitchside trauma management.

• BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
• FA Level 5 ATMMiF.
• CSP Membership.
• HCPC Registration.
• FA Safeguarding Certificate.
• Strong understanding of youth development and the Elite Player Performance Plan.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
• Highly organised approach with strong professional standards.
• Flexibility to work irregular hours and travel in line with Academy football.

An MSc in Sports Physiotherapy, Sports Medicine or a related discipline, Category 1 Academy experience and familiarity with electronic medical records or athlete monitoring systems would be advantageous.
