Job summary

vgroup is seeking an experienced AC Engineer for a RoRo passenger ferry on a 3-month on/off contract. The role requires valid STCW 95 and a refrigerant gas certificate, with duties covering HVAC, refrigeration and engine room ventilation.

You will report to the Chief Engineer and ensure safe, compliant operations aboard the vessel, with emphasis on maintenance planning, safety drills, and detailed record-keeping. Prior Alaska or Coast Guard experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Valid STCW 95 certification is required.
  • Certificate to work with refrigerant gases is required.
  • Proven ability to read technical drawings and manuals.
  • Must be physically and medically fit.

Job description

We are looking for experienced AC Engineer, ready to join RoRo Passenger ferry - vessel TBC, embarkation end of October 2026 contract 3 months on/off, required experienced as such, all valid Certificates, good references/recommendations.

Position Summary
  1. To maintain a safe and efficient operation of the HVAC/Refrigeration system and Engine Room ventilation system, in accordance with Company Policies, any National or International standards and any other prescribed regulations.
  2. Execution of repair and maintenance work inside and outside of the HVAC/Refrigeration section, as well as the Engine Room Ventilation system, in a safe and efficient manner.
  3. Responsible for overseeing maintenance and repair of the required areas, in accordance with Company Policies and in compliance with Public Health or any other prescribed regulations.
  4. Responsible for maintaining detailed work lists, reports, records and logs for the required areas.
  5. Ensures proper coordination with the required technical parties and departments.
Reporting Structure
  1. Reporting to the Chief Engineer.
Safety Duties
  1. Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions.
  2. Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
  3. Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
  4. Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly. Delivering training, guidance and supervision on how to use and maintain them where necessary.
Education/Experience/Qualifications
  1. Valid STCW 95 certification.
  2. Valid Certificate to work with refrigerant gases
  3. Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
  4. Physically and medically fit.
  5. Moral integrity is required.
  6. Public Health, Sanitation and Environmental training courses are appreciated.
  7. Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.
  8. Alaska experience is a plus.
  9. It is recommended to have Public Health, Coast Guard and Port State Control experience.
Language requirements

Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.

Computer knowledge

Good working knowledge of AMOS and Microsoft applications.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in the Engine Control Room, Engine spaces with noise, light traffic, distracting environments.
