Job Summary

We are delighted to be inviting applications from enthusiastic Clinical/Counselling Psychologists to join our expanding and innovative Training & Partnerships Team in Psychological Services, led by the Deputy Clinical Director of Psychological Services.

The team are responsible for an expanding array of projects, which include training delivery to staff within the workforce, building our links and provision to partner organisations, alongside our flagship Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP) Masters programme. We are a friendly, enthusiastic and supportive psychology‑led team who are committed to delivering excellent training, supporting high‑quality psychological service‑provision.

Main Duties

Post holders will contribute to the development and delivery of the Masters level training for CAPs. The role will encompass design and delivery of teaching and assessment as well as supervision, monitoring and support of individual learners, liaison with practice placement supervisors and contribution to the governance of the programme.

The CAP programme has excellent links to the national group of trainers as well as to the professional body and other providers in the region. Post holders will have the opportunity to build engagement with wider networks, offering excellent experience to develop leadership skills.

For the lecturing part of the role we are looking for staff to bring expertise across psychological assessment and therapies, mental health, physical health, learning disabilities and specialist areas of delivery across the adult and older adult range. We are particularly interested to hear from those who bring experience of teaching, lecturing, research and supervision and who are keen to build their experience and skills in clinical training.

Job Responsibilities

The post is part‑time and can easily fit alongside a clinical role, or another training role. For those interested in fewer hours a job share is considered. Full‑time opportunities exist in clinical specialisms that could be combined with the role to make up additional sessions.

The post will include both online remote delivery as well as in‑person delivery. While a significant portion of the work can be undertaken from home the post holder will need to travel to our base in Epping for in‑person delivery. Flexible working arrangements are available.

Support for CPD, qualification gain in learning and teaching and opportunities for dual accreditation in specialist areas of psychological therapy, leadership training or research development are available via the appraisal process. Strong links with regional universities include research collaborations and teaching/placement experience.

Opportunities for a preceptorship in a band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist and Clinical Lecturer role exist for those who may not yet meet the criteria for a band 8a Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist and Clinical Lecturer role.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications Essential

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical/Counselling Psychology OR equivalent Psychological Therapy training (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
  • HCPC Registration and eligibility for BPS accreditation
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Good oral communication skills based on fluency in the English Language.

Desirable

  • Post accreditation training in additional specialised areas of psychological practice e.g. CBT, CBTp, EMDR, DBT, CAT or other.
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists/psychological therapists.
Knowledge Essential
  • Knowledge of mental health legislation, NHS Constitution, CPA and risk assessment and management.
  • British Psychological Society Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Knowledge of psychological therapies and the application of current models of practice, specialist assessment tools and outcomes frameworks including specialist area of practice.
  • Ability and knowledge to select and apply psychological specific interventions in the delivery of the Trust's multi professional pathways and in accordance with mental health evidence‑based recommended interventions.

Desirable

  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS for Clinical/Counselling Psychologist and OR recommended by BABCP/BACP for Psychological Therapists.
  • Experience of working as a qualified clinical/counselling psychologist or psychological therapist for a minimum of two years.
