Job summary

John Lewis & Partners in the Southampton area is hiring a Driver Technician Trainee. You’ll join a 3-month trainee programme to become a fully qualified Customer Delivery Technician with a C1 driving licence and work as part of a two-person delivery crew.

On completion you’ll install furniture, large appliances, sound systems and TVs at customer homes, delivering the signature John Lewis service with a focus on safety and customer satisfaction.

• Experience in a customer-facing role is essential.
• Strong verbal communication and a keen interest in technology/installation.

About The Role

Key Responsibilities

• Being an ambassador for the John Lewis brand with great customer service is your number one priority.
• Perform daily checks and assist in loading your vehicle with the daily deliveries while collaborating with the warehouse team.
• Show great respect and courtesy for the customer's home, and handle unexpected situations to find the best possible solution for your customers.
• Installing various products (including wall-mount TVs, integrated appliances, and hard-wired appliance installations). This will be completed efficiently and quickly for our customers, and will demonstrate how they work once installed.
• Keeping up to date with new products and technologies to perform your role at your best.
• Adhere to all legal driving regulations, including the Working Time Directive and EU regulations to maintain a safe working environment.

Please note that this role involves heavy lifting. You will spend a lot of time delivering large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds, and mattresses.

Essential Skills/experience You'll Need

• UK B-Category manual driving licence with no more than 6 points.
• Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
• Have great verbal communication skills both over the phone and in person.
• Good understanding of technology and an interest in installation.

Desirable Skills/experience You May Have

• Prior experience in installation and customer delivery services.
• Previous role model or team leader experience
