This role involves leading the Paediatric Diabetes service, managing a caseload, and supervising a Dietitian. Candidates must possess relevant qualifications, including a Degree in Dietetics and registration as a Dietitian, with experience in diabetes preferred. Full-time applications are prioritized, but part-time possibilities will be considered. This role offers a chance to work collaboratively in a supportive environment.

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian to join the Nutrition and Dietetics team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This fixed‑term post provides an opportunity to work within the wider Paediatric Diabetes MDT service in Barnsley, where you will work closely alongside Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Paediatric Diabetes Consultants. You will clinically lead the Paediatric Diabetes service for Dietetics within both the inpatient and outpatient setting, working closely with the lead Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse. This post therefore requires advanced knowledge and experience of working within Paediatric Diabetes.

You will work closely with and supervise the Band 6 Dietitian, and be part of a friendly dietetic team of Dietitians, Dietetic Assistants and supportive administrative staff.

This role is full time for 12 months fixed term/secondment opportunity, however part time applications will be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Clinically lead the Paediatric Diabetes service for Dietetics within the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Supervise and manage the Band 6 Dietitian within the service.
  • Own and manage a caseload of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes patients up to 19 years, following clearly defined policies and procedures.
  • Provide Level 3 carbohydrate counting and follow‑up patients in the community through outpatient clinics, home visits, phone reviews and school visits.
  • Attend weekly MDT clinics and contribute actively in MDT meetings.
Essential Qualifications
  • Degree or Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics, with ability to work at Masters level.
  • Registered Dietitian.
  • Eligible for registration with the Health Professions Council.
  • Advanced Clinical Supervisory Skills Course.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Diabetes.
Essential Experience
  • Significant post‑registration experience as a dietitian, specifically within the field of diabetes.
  • Experience of multi‑disciplinary team/agency working.
  • Experience of student training.
  • Experience of leadership and/or line management.
Desirable
  • Experience working within paediatrics/paediatric diabetes/transition and maternity groups.
  • Training to deliver DAFNE diabetes group education programmes.
  • Experience of working with insulin pumps.
  • Registered for the Diploma in Advanced Dietetic Practice.
  • Evidence of other post‑registration education & training, e.g. Diabetes Care.
  • Supplementary prescribing course.
