Job description

These roles are key to delivering the Environment Agency's (EA) Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) function. The main tasks you will be working on will be:

  • Giving flood risk advice to influence our regulatory functions. For example planning applications under the Town and Country Planning Act and/or Flood Risk Activity Permits under the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
  • Giving flood risk advice and guidance to customers and partner organisations, including community groups and local councils.
  • Responding to enquiries and requests for flood risk mapping and modelling data.

You will be based in one of the Thames area Partnerships and Strategic Overview (PSO) teams. You will have a designated base location but will work from home.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training will be given.

The team

PSO teams have a range of responsibilities relating to the management of fluvial (rivers) flood risk. Amongst other things we;

  • Work with Local Councils, community flood groups, other partners to deliver FCRM outcomes.
  • Are a statutory consultee for planning applications under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
  • Regulate flood risk activities by assessing applications for Flood Risk Activity Permits. This is through the Environmental Permitting Regulations (England and Wales) 2016.
Experience/skills required

On the job training will be provided. You will ideally have experience of one or more of the following fields;

  • Town and Country Planning Act 1990
  • Environmental Permitting Regulations (England and Wales) 2016
  • Community Engagement
  • Hydraulic modelling/Geographical Information Systems

You will apply this experience to help members in our teams, other EA functions and partners.

You will be;
