Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assist in preparing irrigation, intravenous admixture solutions, and other medications using aseptic technique.
  • Perform repetitive hand motions for IV Room assignments and prepacking.
  • Fill unit dose, Automated Dispensing Machines (ADM), stock requisitions, and maintain inventory levels in OR, Endo & OB.
  • Deliver unit dose, ADM refills, intravenous solutions, and pharmaceutical supplies to nursing units (must be able to walk and/or stand).
  • Fill medication labels, subject to final check by a pharmacist.
  • Prepare pre-packaged medications in common quantities.
  • Assist with inventory control of supplies and medications, including cycle counts and stock reviews.
  • Clean pharmacy equipment, utensils, and work areas.

Education/Experience Required:
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English at 12th-grade level; follow instructions; perform basic arithmetical computations.
  • Passed Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration exam; meet all requirements of Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
  • Knowledge of basic IV admixture processes and sterile procedures.
  • Good math, computer, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of medication names (brand and generic), dosing, sig codes, and medical terminology.
  • PTCB certification within 2 testing cycles of starting the job.
Registration/Certification:
  • Registered by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy as a Technician.
  • Maintain license from the Board of Pharmacy.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:

This role involves frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking, and lifting over 10 lbs. Occasional climbing stairs, lifting over 50-100 lbs, and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight, speech, smell, touch, keyboard, and telephone. Requires concentration and problem-solving skills.
