Overview

The QMRI facility is part of the network of imaging facilities across Edinburgh. It is located within the Queen’s Medical Research Institute (QMRI) at the Bioquarter campus at Little France in Edinburgh. It hosts 2 PET-CT systems including a Total Body PET-CT scanner, a 3T wide bore MRI and a Photon Counting CT scanner. Both NHS and University staff work together in the facility. The facility supports both imaging for biomedical research and NHS clinical imaging. There is an opportunity to join our expert imaging team at the QMRI facility. You would have the opportunity to work on cutting edge equipment and take part in innovative research.

Responsibilities
  • Work within the core areas of PET-CT, CT and MRI to support both research and clinical activity.
  • Perform imaging tasks, data management, administration and provide additional support for research projects.
  • Contribute to the research imaging programme in support of University academic research as well as NHS and commercial clinical trials.
  • Collaborate within a close team to provide the highest quality of service to patients, research participants and colleagues.
  • Engage in further education and CPD with a genuine interest in medical research.
Qualifications and experience
  • Radiographer with cross sectional imaging experience.
  • Experience in research and CT and/or MRI imaging is desirable (Cardiac CT/MRI in particular).
  • Training will be provided if necessary.
Role details

The vacancy is to work within our core areas of PET-CT, CT and MRI. Your role will include imaging tasks, data management, administration and support for research projects. You would be employed on an NHS Agenda for Change contract. NHS work is in conjunction with RIE Radiology. Research Imaging is in support of University Academic research as well as NHS and commercial clinical trials.

Working arrangements

Working hours are generally 7.4 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Flexible working will be required as workload demands, such as evening or weekend scanning.

  • Salary and terms: AfC Band 6 - 37 hours per week.

  • As from 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part-time hours will be reduced pro-rata with a corresponding increase in hourly rate.
