Job Description

Barnett Waddingham (part of Howden) is a leading independent UK professional services consultancy advising on risk, pensions, investment and insurance. With over 1700 people across 11 offices, our core purpose is based around empowering people to secure better futures. We are a sustainable and thriving client and people focused organisation, committed to doing the right thing.

We are dependent on talented and well‑trained employees who enjoy working for a leading organisation in a closely knit and friendly team. To achieve this – and further support our continued growth – we are looking for talented, motivated and enthusiastic individuals who would value the opportunity to join our summer internship programme within our Investment Consulting team.

We have a supportive structure in place to help you manage your work/life balance. Increasing our talented workforce is imperative to maintaining a proactive and competitive business, which is why our study support package and dedicated training team are always on hand for guidance throughout our graduate programme and beyond.

Many students who have completed our summer internship have gone on to develop their career with us after university as part of our graduate programme. Look at what some of our recent summer interns have to say:

“Joining as an intern, I found the firm to be an incredibly supportive and authentic atmosphere. From the start of my time in the Investment Consulting team, I was able to get involved in a range of projects, from client work to internal research. The support from the team also helped me approach new tasks with more confidence, and encouraged me to continuously seek development with the technical and softer skills needed for the role. Following my summer internship, I was glad to be invited to return as investment analyst once I completed my final year of university study” (Christabel – London)

“I joined the Birmingham office as a summer student. One of the main reasons I chose to join Barnett Waddingham was due to the friendly and caring culture that I’d heard so much about. I’m pleased to say that throughout the application process and my summer internship, everyone I met was lovely and supportive which really helped to make me feel relaxed and welcome – I felt like a real member of the team from day one. During the internship, the work I was involved in was varied and engaging and I had a range of hands‑on experience with client work, such as drafting investment monitoring reports and communicating with investment managers, which allowed me to develop a greater understanding of the work I’d be doing as an Investment Consultant. Everyone was happy to help when you got stuck or needed further clarification and I feel I was challenged but supported throughout, which made it a really positive experience.” (Oliver – Birmingham)

We run an eight‑week paid summer internship programme in our Investment Consulting team which offers first‑class training and work experience.
