Job summary

Hypersonica is seeking a Reliability / RAMS Engineer to join Europe’s defence-focused team in London. You will own system-level FMEA/FMECA frameworks across design, integration, and operations, driving risk-informed decisions throughout the product lifecycle.

Join a small, elite group solving high-stakes problems with autonomy and end-to-end accountability. You will apply fault trees and root-cause analysis to real test/flight data, ensuring robust, cost-aware designs for mission-critical

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Reliability / Safety / RAMS Engineer on deployed systems.
  • Strong FMEA/FMECA development and system-level risk modelling experience.
  • Hands-on failure investigations in real-world environments (test, flight, launch, or in-service).
  • Ability to balance reliability vs complexity trade-offs in engineering design.
  • Experience with structured problem solving (fault trees, fishbone diagrams, root cause analysis).
  • Background in aerospace, defence, or other highly complex system environments.
  • Experience in roles such as quality, reliability, test, certification, V&V, or design engineering.
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to influence across disciplines with rigour.

Responsibilities

  • Own and develop system-level FMEA/FMECA frameworks across vehicle design, AIT, and operations.
  • Define and drive a coherent system failure tolerance strategy balancing redundancy, complexity, and performance.
  • Lead risk identification, quantification, and mitigation planning across the full product lifecycle.
  • Build structured failure analysis methodologies (fault trees, root cause analysis) and apply to test/flight data.
  • Translate reliability insights into design and architecture recommendations for avionics/subsystems.
  • Evaluate trade-offs between reliability, cost, and performance for informed decisions.
  • Ensure credible failure modes are identified, assessed, and mitigated to acceptable risk.
  • Support and lead failure investigations from test campaigns, feeding learnings back into design.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with GNC, hardware, software, and integration teams to ensure holistic reliability.
  • Drive design-for-reliability principles early to avoid over- or under-engineering.
  • Establish RAMS practices suitable for high-performance, mission-critical aerospace systems.
  • Continuously iterate based on real-world data to improve system robustness and viability.

Job description

Help Build Europe's Hypersonic Capability

At Hypersonica, we’re redefining what’s possible in European defence technology. We exist to deliver speed, resilience, and technological independence at a pace that sets a new standard. We are a small, elite team working on problems that matter, and solving them fast.

By joining Hypersonica, you’re not stepping into a predefined role. You’re joining a talent dense environment where every individual shapes the direction of the company. Our philosophy is to hire a small number of exceptional people with broad, deep technical capability, strong judgement, and the ability to operate autonomously.

We hire for talent, not rigid boxes. This role represents a business need, but the way it evolves will be shaped by the individual. If you’ve achieved what others said was impossible, or you bring a unique combination of skills that doesn’t fit a traditional mould, we want to hear from you. The work you do here directly contributes to Europe’s technological independence.

What you’ll do
  • Own and develop system-level FMEA / FMECA frameworks across vehicle design, AIT, and operations
  • Define and drive a coherent system failure tolerance strategy, balancing redundancy, complexity, and performance
  • Lead risk identification, quantification, and mitigation planning across the full product lifecycle
  • Build structured failure analysis methodologies (fault trees, root cause analysis, etc.) and apply them to real test/flight data
  • Translate reliability insights into clear design and architecture recommendations across avionics and system subsystems
  • Evaluate trade-offs between reliability, cost, and performance, enabling informed engineering decision-making
  • Ensure all credible failure modes are identified, assessed, and mitigated to acceptable risk levels
  • Support and lead failure investigations from test campaigns, feeding learnings directly back into design
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with GNC, hardware, software, and integration teams to ensure holistic system reliability
  • Drive design-for-reliability principles early in the development cycle to avoid over- or under-engineering
  • Establish best-in-class RAMS practices suitable for high-performance, mission-critical aerospace systems
  • Continuously iterate based on real-world data to improve system robustness and long-term viability
Who you are
  • An experienced Reliability / Safety / RAMS Engineer with a track record of working on real, deployed systems
  • Strong experience in FMEA / FMECA development and system-level risk modelling
  • Hands‑on experience in failure investigation in real‑world environments (test, flight, launch, or in‑service systems)
  • Proven ability to balance reliability vs complexity trade‑offs in engineering design
  • Experience applying structured problem‑solving methods (e.g. fault trees, fishbone diagrams, root cause analysis)
  • Background in aerospace, defence, or other highly complex system environments
  • Experience in roles such as quality, reliability, test, certification, V&V, or design engineering
  • Strong systems thinking - you can evaluate risk holistically rather than optimising locally
  • Ability to influence design decisions across disciplines with clarity and engineering rigour
  • Comfortable operating with incomplete data, ambiguity, and tight constraints
  • You’ve worked on systems where failure has real‑world consequences, not just theoretical models
  • You take ownership of complex problems and drive them through to resolution
What we offer
  • A mission driven environment with the opportunity to work on one of Europe’s most consequential defence challenges, with direct impact on sovereign capability and security.
  • Daily collaboration with top experts across engineering, operations, and defence, with real opportunity to learn from the best, contribute, and grow.
  • High ownership and autonomy; no time tracking, no micromanagement, just clear objectives and accountability for outcomes.
  • A fast paced environment where good ideas are implemented quickly, and feedback from test and flight drives real decisions.
  • A culture that values clarity, integrity, and excellence, and supports people who take initiative and push boundaries responsibly.
  • Competitive compensation and real share options aligned to responsibility and impact, not tenure or hierarchy.

At Hypersonica, every hire raises the bar. We are deliberately small, intensely capable, and deeply mission‑driven. If this role feels like a strong fit, or if you believe you bring something exceptional that goes beyond the description, we encourage you to apply.

Hypersonica is an equal‑opportunity employer and assesses candidates solely on merit, capability, and potential.
