Job summary

A prestigious university in Edinburgh seeks a full-time researcher to develop mechanistic models linking 3D gene structure and function. The ideal candidate will have experience with coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations and a willingness to engage in collaborative research. This position offers a competitive salary and the possibility of flexible working arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of mechanistic models linking 3D gene structure and function.
  • Engage with experimental collaborators in joint projects.

Skills

Experience in coarse-grained models for polymers
Strong computational expertise
Experience or willingness for interdisciplinary research
Strong planning and management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Job description
Grade and Salary

Grade UE07: £41,064 to £48,822 per annum, pro‑rata if part‑time.

Position Details

College of Science and Engineering / School of Physics and Astronomy.

Full‑time: 35 hours per week.

Fixed term: expected end date 31 March 2027.

Role Summary

The candidate will contribute to the development of new mechanistic models aiming to dissect the as‑yet‑elusive link between 3D gene structure and function.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will ideally have a good experience with polymer models and coarse‑grained molecular dynamics simulations, and will have experience or willingness to engage with experimental collaborators in joint projects. The results obtained in this work can be used, among other things, to inform models of transcription in disease, and understand how mutations in chromatin‑associated proteins or DNA elements associated with genetic diseases and cancers affect transcription.

This post is full‑time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part‑time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non‑contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on‑campus working.

Salary

The salary for this post is £41,064 to £48,822 per annum.

Term

The post is fixed term with funding until 31st March 2027.

Skills and Attributes for Success
  • Experience in coarse‑grained models for polymers and biopolymers
  • Strong computational expertise, including coarse‑grained molecular dynamics simulations
  • Experience of, or willingness to engage in, interdisciplinary collaborative research combining physics and biology
  • Strong planning and management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
