Job description

Five Education is working with a small, welcoming primary school in west Bath to recruit a committed 1 : 1 teaching assistant to support a child with complex needs. This position will begin in November and will likely run until the New Year, with the potential to extend.

The role will involve working closely with one child, providing tailored, consistent support to help them access the curriculum, regulate emotions, and thrive within the school environment. As the child has mobility issues, being comfortable and confident providing intimate care will also be required.

You’ll receive support and guidance from your dedicated Five Education consultant, along with access to free training such as Makaton, Team Teach and PMLD Awareness.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide 1 : 1 support throughout the school day, adapting activities to meet the child's needs
  • Promote emotional regulation and social development
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCo to follow individual support plans
  • Support the child during playtime and lunchtime to ensure their well‑being and inclusion
Essential Criteria
  • Reliable, empathetic and able to provide personal care
  • Available to work full‑time, Monday to Friday, 8 : 30-15 : 30 (term‑time only)
  • Right to work in the UK - we cannot offer sponsorship or accept Skilled Worker visas
  • Able to provide two recent references (from the last two years)
  • Hold an enhanced DBS check on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one
  • Please note, if you do not have a Non‑Voluntary Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, we will need to help you process a new one at a cost of £62.70. This will be refunded after 20 days of work with us.

Pay

Five Education operates a PAYE payroll; this is the most transparent way to be paid with no hidden fees such as admin fee or employer's NI. Please note pay rate is for illustration and does include holiday pay.

Vetting

Successful applicants will be required to undergo checks including reference checks, TRA checks and will need to have a DBS. There will also be an interview.
