Job summary

GSL Education Hull Branch seeks a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with a hearing impairment in a York secondary school. The role is four days per week, temporary and part-time, with ASAP start.

You will deliver focused one-to-one support, help the pupil access lessons and work closely with teachers to tailor strategies while safeguarding and confidentiality are maintained. Desirable to have experience with hearing-impaired learners and an updated CV covering the last 10

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children with hearing impairments desirable.
• Understanding of barriers faced by pupils with hearing loss in education.
• Excellent communication and listening skills, with ability to adapt communication to individual needs.
• Patient, attentive and compassionate approach for 1:1 relationships.
• Ability to work with teachers and support staff while maintaining pupil confidentiality.
• CV covering last 10 years with explanations for gaps.
• Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to apply for one.

Responsibilities

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work 4 days per week in a secondary school setting in York, providing dedicated support to a pupil with a hearing impairment. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who can offer consistent, personalised support and work closely with teaching staff to ensure the pupil can fully access their education.

1:1 Teaching Assistant Role:

The successful 1:1 Teaching Assistant will provide focused support throughout the school day, helping the pupil access lessons, communicate effectively and participate confidently in school life. You will develop a positive working relationship with the pupil while working closely with teachers and support staff to follow appropriate strategies and meet their individual needs.

1:1 Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

• Provide dedicated one-to-one support to a pupil with a hearing impairment across lessons and school activities.
• Help the pupil access classroom instructions, discussions, resources and learning activities effectively.
• Work closely with teachers to adapt communication and learning approaches to support the pupil’s individual needs.
• Encourage the pupil’s confidence, independence and active participation in school life.
• Monitor engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations with teachers and the wider support team.
• Promote an inclusive, supportive and respectful learning environment while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

1:1 Teaching Assistant Requirements:

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with hearing impairments or additional needs is desirable.
• A good understanding of the potential barriers faced by pupils with hearing loss within an educational setting.
• Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to adapt communication to individual needs.
• Patient, attentive and compassionate approach with the ability to build a positive one-to-one relationship.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and other professionals while maintaining pupil confidentiality.
• An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years with explanations for any gaps
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
