Job summary

Smile Education Recruitment in Wolverhampton is seeking a full‑time teaching assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child with highly complex needs. You will deliver engaging activities, work with the teacher and a multidisciplinary team to support learning and wellbeing throughout the school day.

The ideal candidate will have recent experience with complex needs, relevant TA/Childcare qualifications, and a willingness to obtain an Enhanced DBS via Update Service.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with additional needs on a 1:1 basis.
• Relevant TA or childcare qualification Level 2 or 3 desirable.
• Willingness to obtain Enhanced DBS via Update Service.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a classroom team.

Responsibilities

Job description

Full‑time teaching assistant role providing 1:1 support for a child with highly complex additional needs, based in Wolverhampton, available from the Autumn Term with a long‑term placement potentially until July 2027.

About the Role

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child with highly complex additional needs.
• Deliver engaging, tailored activities to support the child's learning and development.
• Work collaboratively with the class teacher and wider multidisciplinary team.
• Support the child's emotional, educational and physical wellbeing throughout the school day.
• Assist with personal care where required.
• Deliver medical care following specialist training (full specialist training will be provided; previous experience desirable but not essential).

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Recent experience supporting children with additional needs on a 1:1 basis.
• A relevant Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualification (Level 2 or Level 3 desirable).
• Experience supporting children with complex needs.
• Previous experience delivering medical care is advantageous but not essential.
• Confidence working independently whilst also being an effective member of a wider classroom team.
• Patient, caring and flexible approach.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Smile Education.
