SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary (Thurrock)

Location: Thurrock

Contract: Full-time / Part-time

Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Thurrock. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children with additional needs reach their full potential.

About the role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional support—either on a 1:1 basis or within small groups. You will assist with tailored learning activities, promote positive behaviour, and help create an inclusive, nurturing environment where all children can succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with a range of special educational needs (e.g., ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech & language needs)
  • Deliver individualised support and interventions as directed by the class teacher and SENCO
  • Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence in learning
  • Assist with classroom routines and help adapt activities to meet student needs
  • Foster positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain accurate notes when required
What we're looking for
  • Experience working with children with SEN (school-based experience preferred)
  • A patient, caring, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Understanding of SEND strategies, behaviour support, and inclusive practice
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
