A brilliant school in Gateshead is looking for a dedicated SEN 1:1 Support Assistantant to start immediately to work closely with a pupil who needs consistent, calm, and caring support throughout the school day. If you’re someone who naturally puts children at ease and can handle tricky moments with patience, this could be a great match for you.

The role

Your main focus will be supporting one pupil who experiences social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. You’ll help them feel settled, understand routines, and take part in learning in a way that feels manageable.

Your day might include:
  • Providing steady 1:1 support during lessons, transitions, and breaks
  • Using agreed strategies to help the pupil manage emotions and behaviour
  • Encouraging positive communication, confidence, and problem-solving
  • Helping to maintain a calm, structured learning space
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and pastoral staff to keep support consistent

You’ll be someone the pupil can rely on, even when the day feels tough.
