Job description

Targeted, High-Impact 1:1 Education

Are you an experienced and compassionate educator, mentor, or instructor looking to make a profound difference through specialist one-to-one (1:1) support?

We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Education Instructor to join a local secondary school in Blackpool. This critical role focuses on providing intensive, bespoke academic and pastoral intervention for students aged 11-16 who require individual attention to overcome barriers to learning (e.g., due to SEND, SEMH, medical needs, or disengagement).

If you thrive on building trusting relationships and seeing tangible progress with vulnerable students, this high-value, non-classroom-based role is for you.

Key Responsibilities & Opportunity
  • Bespoke Intervention: Plan and deliver tailored 1:1 tuition and support sessions covering core academic subjects (e.g., Maths, English) or providing specialist vocational/pastoral mentoring.
  • Vulnerable Learners: Work intensively with small caseloads of KS3 and KS4 students (11-16) who are currently disengaged, medically fragile, or have complex SEMH/SEND needs.
  • Relationship Building: Act as a key mentor, focusing on improving attendance, punctuality, self-esteem, and re-engagement with learning.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the school's SENCO, Pastoral Team, and external agencies to track progress and contribute to EHC plans or bespoke education packages.
  • Professional Development: Gain highly specialised experience in providing alternative and therapeutic education within a mainstream setting.
Essential Skills & Attributes
  • Experience: Proven experience delivering effective one-to-one support, tuition, or mentoring to secondary-aged students (11-16).
  • Qualifications: A degree or relevant Level 3 qualification is preferred. QTS is NOT required, but a background in teaching, tutoring, or youth work is essential.
  • Skills: Exceptional listening, empathy, and behaviour management skills. Ability to create flexible, differentiated learning plans.
  • Attributes: Patient, resilient, and highly motivational with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable young people.
