Job summary

Teaching Personnel Ltd. is recruiting a Behaviour Support Practitioner for secondary schools in Northumberland.

The role involves 1:1 and small group support for pupils in Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them engage with learning and school life. The ideal candidate will have experience with children or young people, a Level 2+ qualification in Education/Health Care, and strong behaviour management and communication skills.

  • Support pupils in classrooms, intervention spaces, or alternative provision settings.
  • Work with teaching, pastoral and SEN teams to monitor progress.
  • Record and report on student behaviour and engagement.
  • Contribute to a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment.

Contract: Long term - potential to go permanent
Hours: Full-time and part-time available
Pay: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)

About the Role

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a secondary schools in Northumberland to recruit a Behaviour Support Practitioner to start ideally as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting young people with behavioural, emotional, and social needs.

You will work with pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing targeted behaviour support to help students engage positively with learning and school life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group behaviour support
  • Support students with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, or additional learning barriers
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and individual support plans
  • Assist with de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies
  • Support pupils in classrooms, intervention spaces, or alternative provision settings
  • Work collaboratively with teaching, pastoral, and SEN teams
  • Monitor and report on student behaviour and engagement
  • Promote a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate
Essential:
  • Experience working with children or young people (education, youth work, care, or similar)
  • Level 2+ Qualification in Education / Health Care or related
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Resilient, calm, and adaptable approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people
Desirable:
  • Experience in a secondary school or SEMH setting
  • Knowledge of behaviour support strategies and trauma-informed practice
  • Team Teach or positive handling training
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Youth Work, Psychology, Education)
